José María Galán Rodríguez (born 1904, died 1978) was a Spanish military officer. He played a part in the Spanish Civil War. He was the brother of Fermín Galán, who led the Jaca Uprising. His other brother was Francisco Galán. Before the war, José María was a lieutenant in the Carabineros, a type of police force.

José María Galán's Role in the Civil War
José María Galán stayed loyal to the Spanish government. This was during the coup of July 1936. This event started the Spanish Civil War.
Early Actions in the War
In July 1936, Galán led a group of citizen soldiers. This group was called a militia column. They fought on the Somosierra front. In October 1936, he took charge of the 3rd Mixed Brigade. This was one of the first units of its kind.
Key Battles and Commands
Later, José María Galán fought in the Second Battle of the Corunna Road. In June 1937, he led the 34th Division. This was during the Segovia Offensive. In 1938, he became the leader of the XXIII Army Corps. This unit was active in the region of Andalusia.
Life After the War
After the Spanish Civil War ended, José María Galán left Spain. He went to the USSR (Soviet Union). Later, he moved to Cuba and lived there. He passed away in Cuba in 1978.
