Club Career Highlights
Playing for Parma
José Mauri started his professional football journey with the Italian club Parma. He made his first appearance for the team on December 3, 2013. This was during a Coppa Italia match, where he came on as a substitute. Parma won that game 4–1.
A very special moment for Mauri happened on April 11, 2015. He scored the only goal in a 1–0 win against Juventus. At that time, his team, Parma, was in last place, while Juventus was leading the league! José said it was "the happiest day of my life."
Joining AC Milan
In 2015, José Mauri moved to another big Italian club, AC Milan. He signed a four-year contract. His first full game for Milan was on December 1, 2015, in a Coppa Italia match. Milan won that game 3–1 after extra time. He later made his first Serie A appearance for Milan in March 2016.
Loan to Empoli
To get more playing time, Mauri was loaned to Empoli, another Serie A club, for the 2016–17 season. This gave him more opportunities to play in top-level matches.
Moving to Talleres
After his time in Italy, José Mauri moved back to Argentina. On September 27, 2019, he joined Talleres de Córdoba, a team in the Argentine Primera División.
Playing for Sporting Kansas City
On August 5, 2021, Mauri decided to try playing in the United States. He signed with Sporting Kansas City, an MLS (Major League Soccer) team. He played for them for about a year and a half. In April 2022, he left the club by mutual agreement.
Returning to Argentina with Sarmiento
On December 12, 2022, José Mauri returned to Argentina once more. He joined Sarmiento, a club in the Argentine Primera División. He signed a one-year contract with them. Unfortunately, in February 2023, he had an injury to his left knee that kept him from playing for several months. He extended his contract with Sarmiento until December 2024.
Back to Italy with Cosenza
On August 9, 2024, Mauri made another move back to Italy. He signed with Cosenza, a team in Serie B. He signed for one season, with a chance to stay for a second. However, his contract with Cosenza ended by mutual agreement on January 20, 2025.
International Career
José Mauri has family roots in both Argentina and Italy. Because one of his grandmothers was Italian, he could choose to play for either the Argentine or Italian national teams. Even though he played for Italy's youth teams, he later decided that he wanted to play only for Argentina in international competitions.
Personal Life
José Mauri has an older brother named Juan Mauri. Juan is also a football player. Interestingly, when José signed with Milan, his brother Juan also signed with the club at the same time!
