Jose Miguel Tuason Arroyo (born June 27, 1946), often called Mike Arroyo, is a Filipino lawyer. He is well-known as the husband of former Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. He served as the First Gentleman of the Philippines. He was the first and, so far, the only man to hold this special role. He was also the only male spouse of a Vice President until 2022. That's when Mans Carpio became the spouse of Vice President Sara Duterte.

Family and Early Life
Jose Miguel Arroyo comes from a family with a long history in the Philippines. His great-great-grandparents were Ignacio Arroyo and María Pidal. They had three children. One of them, José María Arroyo, became a senator in 1919. Another, Mariano Arroyo, was elected governor of Iloilo province in 1928.
Senator José María Arroyo and his wife, Jesusa Araneta-Lacson, had seven children. One of their children was Ignacio Lacson Arroyo, Jose Miguel's father. Ignacio Lacson Arroyo married Lourdes Zaragoza Tuason. They had two sons, Jose Miguel and Ignacio Jr., and a daughter named Ma. Lourdes.
Jose Miguel Arroyo married Maria Gloria Macaraeg Macapagal in 1968. They have three children together. Their children are Juan Miguel, who is known as "Mikey," Evangelina Lourdes, called "Luli," and Diosdado, known as "Dato." Luli married J. Aloysius "Luigi" Bernas in 2008.
Public Role and Contributions
In the 1960s, before his wife became president, Jose Miguel Arroyo was involved in publishing. He was the publisher of a magazine for teenagers called Teenstone. This magazine was started by guitarist Ramon Jacinto.
When his wife was president, Jose Miguel Arroyo took on the role of First Gentleman. One of his main projects was to find money to help train Filipino athletes. This training was important for the athletes to prepare for the 2005 Southeast Asian Games. The Philippines was the host country for these games.
Health Matters
Jose Miguel Arroyo's health has been a public topic since 2007. On April 9, 2007, he had a major heart surgery. Doctors found he had a serious condition called an aortic aneurysm. The surgery lasted ten hours and was successful. He recovered well and was discharged from the hospital 22 days later.
However, his health has been described as "questionable" since then. In 2008, he had severe stomach pains that caused an emergency landing of his plane. He also had another heart-related hospital visit in 2010.
