Joseph Minala's Football Journey
Joseph Minala started his football career playing for an amateur club called Vigor Perconti. His talent quickly caught the eye of bigger teams. Napoli even gave him a two-month trial.
Joining Lazio's Youth Team
In 2013, scouts from Lazio, a famous Italian club, noticed Minala. He was playing for the Lazio region's team in a tournament called the Trofeo delle Regioni. He then joined Lazio's youth academy in the summer of 2013.
Age Questions and Official Confirmation
Early in 2014, there were some public discussions about Minala's age. Both Lazio and Minala stated that his age was correct. The Italian Football Association looked into the matter. In May 2014, they confirmed that his given age was accurate. No action was taken against him or the club.
Playing for Lazio's Senior Team
Minala first joined Lazio's main team on March 16, 2014. He was a substitute in a match against Cagliari. His first full game in Serie A, Italy's top league, was on April 6. He came on for the last 13 minutes of a 2–0 win against Sampdoria.
Loan Spells in Italy
To gain more experience, Minala was loaned to other clubs.
- Bari: On August 25, 2014, he joined Serie B team Bari for a season. On December 13, he scored his first professional goal. It was a winning goal in the last minute against Cittadella. He scored two more goals for Bari.
- Latina: On July 6, 2015, Minala was loaned to another Serie B team, Latina. He scored his first goal for them on October 27. In January 2016, he returned to Bari for a short time.
- Salernitana: Minala joined Salernitana on loan in January 2017. He played there for a while and then returned to the same club on loan again in 2019.
Playing in China
On February 28, 2020, Minala moved to China. He joined Chinese Super League club Qingdao Huanghai on loan until the end of that year.
Later Club Career
After his time in China, Minala continued his football journey with other clubs.
- Lucchese: On October 26, 2021, he signed with Serie C team Lucchese. He played for them until the end of the season.
- Olbia: On August 23, 2022, Minala joined Olbia. His contract with Olbia ended by agreement on January 6, 2023.
- Liepāja: On March 3, 2023, Minala signed with Latvian Higher League club FK Liepāja.
- Sliema Wanderers: In the summer of 2023, Minala moved to Malta. He joined Maltese Premier League team Sliema Wanderers.
- Gżira United: As of July 2025, Joseph Minala plays for Gżira United in the Maltese Premier League.
International Games for Cameroon
Joseph Minala has also represented his home country, Cameroon. He played for the Cameroon under-23 team. This was during their try to qualify for the 2015 Africa U-23 Cup of Nations. He scored a goal against Sierra Leone in a 1–1 game on May 30, 2015. However, Cameroon was eliminated from the competition.
