Joseph Wooten (born December 15, 1961) is an American musician who plays keyboards. He is also a singer, songwriter, author, and helps others through charity work. Since 1993, he has been a member of the famous Steve Miller Band.

Early Life and Musical Family
Joseph Wooten grew up in a very musical family. He was the fourth of five children born to Dorothy and Elijah Wooten. All of his brothers, Victor Wooten, Roy "Futureman" Wooten, Regi Wooten, and Rudy Wooten (who has passed away), are also talented musicians.
By the time Joseph was 11 years old, he was already performing with his brothers in their family band, called The Wooten Brothers. Because their father was in the United States Air Force, the family moved around a lot. They finally settled in Newport News, Virginia, in 1972. Joseph finished high school at Denbigh High School in 1979. While he was still in high school, Joseph and his brothers played music at the country music venue in the Busch Gardens theme park in Williamsburg, Virginia.
Joseph Wooten's Music Career
Joseph Wooten has been the main keyboard player and a background singer for the Steve Miller Band since 1993. This means he has been touring and performing with them for over 30 years!
Besides his work with the Steve Miller Band, Joseph has also released his own music. He has two solo albums: Hands of Soul, which came out in 2003, and Soul of Freedom, released in 2013. He has also helped produce music for many other artists, working on over 35 albums.
Inspiring Others
Joseph Wooten loves to share his experiences and inspire young people. He often visits schools across the country to give talks. For example, in February 2018, he spoke at the Harmony School of Innovation in Fort Worth, Texas.
He also gave a special talk called a TEDx talk in January 2018. The talk was titled "Nothing is Everything It All Matters" and was given to a large audience at the Halloran Centre in Downtown Memphis. Joseph has also performed his songs on TV shows, like "Unity" and "We Are American," which he performed with his band, The Hands of Soul, on the Today in Nashville show.

Helping Others
Joseph Wooten is also known for his charitable work. In September 2015, he worked with the You are Never Alone Foundation (YANAF). He performed for students at Mount Anthony Union High School. This event was part of a presentation by the foundation to help raise awareness about homelessness and support those in need.
