Josephine Jue was born in 1946. She is a Chinese-American computer expert and mathematician. She is famous for being the first Asian-American woman to work at NASA. Josephine Jue worked at NASA for 37 years. She also helped start the Chinese Baptist Church in Houston, Texas.

Early Life and Education

Josephine Jue grew up in Vance, Mississippi. Her family was part of the Chinese community in the Mississippi Delta. She went to the University of Houston. There, she earned a special degree in mathematics.

Working at NASA

Josephine Jue started working at NASA in 1963. At that time, she was one of only eight women working there. She was also the only Asian-American woman. She worked for NASA for 34 years. During this time, she held four different important jobs.

Helping with Space Missions

Josephine Jue helped with many important space projects. She worked on the Space Shuttle program. She also helped with the famous Apollo 11 mission. This was the mission that first landed people on the Moon!

Leading Software Development

In 1975, Josephine Jue became a leader at NASA. She was the chief of the Software Engineering Laboratory (SEL). This lab created and managed computer programs. She is most known for her work on the HAL/S system. This was a special computer language. It was very important for controlling the Space Shuttle.
