Joshua Johnson (born January 25, 1914 – died August 12, 1999) was a talented American baseball player. He was known by his nickname, "Brute". Johnson played as a catcher in the Negro leagues from 1934 to 1940.

Playing in the Negro Leagues

Johnson began his baseball career with the Homestead Grays in 1934. The Negro leagues were professional baseball leagues for African American players. This was before baseball was fully integrated.

During his career, Johnson played for several teams. Besides the Homestead Grays, he also played for the Cincinnati Tigers. He was also a member of the New York Black Yankees. He played for these teams until 1940.

Life After Baseball

After his baseball career, Josh Johnson served in the U.S. Army. He was a soldier during World War II. This was a very important time in history.

Johnson lived a long life. He passed away in Springfield, Illinois in 1999. He was 85 years old.
