Joshua Haulli facts for kids

Joshua Haulli was a talented Canadian singer and songwriter from Igloolik, Nunavut. He became well-known for his music, which he wrote and performed in the Inuktitut language. In 2019, he released his first album called Aqqut.

Haulli was recognized for his amazing talent at the 15th Canadian Folk Music Awards. He was nominated for three awards: Traditional Singer of the Year, Indigenous Songwriter of the Year, and Young Performer of the Year. He proudly won the award for Young Performer of the Year, which was a big achievement for him.

Joshua Haulli's Musical Start

Joshua started writing songs when he was a teenager. He loved making music and quickly showed his skills. In 2015, he won the "Battle of the Bands" competition at Nunavut's Alianait Arts Festival. This was an exciting win that helped him get noticed.

Two years later, in 2017, one of his songs, "Angajuqqaat," was a finalist in the Qilaut Songwriting Contest. This contest is run by the Nunavut Department of Culture and Heritage, and it celebrates new songs.

Besides his passion for music, Joshua Haulli also ran his own business. He sold traditional Inuit hunting supplies. This showed his connection to his culture and community.
