Josiane Kartheiser was born on November 28, 1950. She is a well-known journalist and writer from Luxembourg. She mostly writes in German, but also in Luxembourgish. Josiane Kartheiser has received an important award, the Anne Beffort Prize. This award recognized her many years of work in Luxembourg's writing world. She was honored for her contributions at a time when most writers were men.

Her Early Life and Education

Josiane Kartheiser was born in Differdange, Luxembourg, in 1950. Her father, Rene Kartheiser, was also a writer.

She finished high school at the Lycée des jeunes filles in Luxembourg City. After that, she studied English and American literature. She attended the University of Luxembourg and then the University of Kent in Canterbury, England, from 1971 to 1974.

Her Career as a Journalist and Teacher

After her studies, Josiane Kartheiser worked as a freelance journalist. This means she wrote for different newspapers and magazines without being a full-time employee. Later, she taught Luxembourgish at Sheffield University and at Luxembourg's Centre de langues. She retired from teaching in 2011.

Her knowledge of languages was very useful. She helped create a special dictionary called Parler luxembourgeois – Esou schwätze mir – Living Luxembourgish. This dictionary helps people learn French, Luxembourgish, and English. She also wrote regularly for several Luxembourg newspapers. These include Lëtzebuerger Journal, Tageblatt, and Le Jeudi.

Her Writing and Books

Since 1978, Josiane Kartheiser has written many different types of books. She has written short stories, essays, poems, and even plays. She has also written literary criticism and books for children. She has published more than fifteen books of poems.

In 2022, she published a biography called Ärztin ohne Furcht und Tabus. This book tells the life story of Dr. Marie-Paule Molitor-Peffer, a doctor who helped many people in Luxembourg.

Supporting Women in Luxembourg

In 2016, Josiane Kartheiser helped start a group called Femmes pionnières du Luxembourg. This group was founded with five other women. Their goal is to show how important women are in the workplace in Luxembourg. They do this through special exhibitions, talks, and publications.

Awards and Recognition

In July 2010, Josiane Kartheiser received the Anne Beffort Prize. The City of Luxembourg gave her this award. It recognized her important work in Luxembourg's literature for over 25 years. At that time, the writing world was mostly led by men. This award also showed how much Josiane Kartheiser cares about supporting women in Luxembourg society.
