Josina's Life

Early Years and Family

Josina van Aerssen was born in The Hague, a city in the Netherlands. Her parents were Cornelis van Aerssen and Anna Albertina van Schagen Beijeren. Later in her life, in 1786, she married Baron Carel van Boetzelaer.

A Life at Court

Josina had an important role as a lady-in-waiting. She served Anne, Princess Royal and Princess of Orange. Princess Anne was married to Prince William IV of Orange. This meant Josina spent time at the royal court.

Her Talents: Art and Music

Josina was a very creative person. She was a skilled painter, even though it was more of a hobby for her. She painted a portrait of Princess Caroline. She was also a composer, meaning she wrote music. She likely composed music while at the royal court.

In 1780, Josina shared some of her musical pieces with the public. Her compositions were special because they were inspired by Italian music. This made them quite unique for the Netherlands at that time.

Josina van Aerssen passed away in IJsselstein when she was 64 years old.
