José Moratón Taeño, born on July 14, 1979, is a Spanish former professional footballer. He mostly played as a central defender. Today, he is the academy manager for the football club Racing de Santander. During his 13 years as a professional player, he spent most of his time with Racing de Santander. He played in 156 matches in La Liga, which is Spain's top football league, over nine seasons.

Playing Career
José Moratón was a dedicated football player. He spent almost his entire career playing for his hometown team, Racing de Santander. He was known for his strong defense.
Early Years at Racing
Moratón was born in Santander, Spain. He started his professional journey with Racing de Santander on December 13, 1998. His first game was a 0–0 draw against CD Tenerife in La Liga.
In the 2001–02 season, Racing was in the second division. Moratón scored a very important goal against Atlético Madrid. This goal helped Racing return to the top league after just one year away.
Becoming a Team Leader
Moratón became one of the team's captains, showing his leadership skills. However, he faced a serious injury during the 2006–07 season. This injury caused him to miss most of the games that year.
He returned to play 18 games in the next season. That year, Racing made history by qualifying for the UEFA Europa League for the first time ever. This was a huge achievement for the club.
In the following two seasons in the top league, Moratón played as a backup player. Still, he contributed to 23 matches in total. His help was important as Racing managed to stay in the league. He also helped his team reach the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey, a major Spanish cup competition. In June 2010, he left Racing de Santander after nearly two decades with the club.
Time with Salamanca
For the 2010–11 season, Moratón played for UD Salamanca in the second division. He started in all the matches he played and scored five goals. This was his best goal-scoring season. However, in June 2011, his team was relegated to a lower league. At 32 years old, Moratón decided to retire from professional football.
Coaching Career
After retiring as a player, José Moratón began a new chapter in his football journey: coaching.
Coaching Young Talent
Moratón returned to Racing de Santander to coach their Under-19 (U-19) team. This role allowed him to guide young players. After the 2011-12 season, he spent a few years working as a coach for the Cantabrian Football Federation.
Managing Senior Teams
In June 2016, Moratón became the manager of Racing de Santander B, which is Racing's reserve team. He extended his contract for another year in July 2017.
From 2018 to 2020, he managed CD Bezana. Then, on May 23, 2020, he signed with UM Escobedo. He decided to resign from this position on May 27, 2021.
On May 24, 2022, he took on a new role as the assistant manager for CD Laredo. Since 2023, he has been the academy manager for Racing de Santander, helping to develop the club's future stars.
