Joyce Goldstein (born July 17, 1935) is a famous American chef. She has won the important James Beard Foundation Award two times. She also ran a very popular restaurant called Square One in San Francisco from 1984 to 1996.

Joyce Goldstein's Amazing Career
Starting Out as a Chef
Joyce Goldstein worked as the head chef at a cafe inside Chez Panisse for three years. She also started the first cooking school in San Francisco that focused on international foods. It was called the California Street Cooking School.
Besides being a chef, she taught about kitchen design at the University of California. Her first cookbook, The Mediterranean Kitchen, came out in 1989. Since then, she has written many cookbooks about Mediterranean cuisine and Jewish cuisine.
Running Square One Restaurant
Joyce Goldstein ran her restaurant, Square One, in San Francisco from 1984 to 1996. At Square One, she offered a new menu every day. The food was inspired by delicious Mediterranean cuisine.
Her restaurant really changed how people thought about food in San Francisco. In 2015, to celebrate Joyce Goldstein's 80th birthday, the team from Square One got back together. They served a special dinner for one night only!
Awards and Recognition
Joyce Goldstein was recognized by the James Beard Foundation Awards in 1985. This is a very important group that celebrates top chefs and food experts in America.
She was nominated for many awards after that. She won two big ones! In 1993, she won for her cookbook, Back to Square One: Old World Food in a New World Kitchen. The next year, in 1994, she won for being the 'Best Chef in California'.
