Juan Cornago (born around 1400 – died after 1475) was a Spanish composer from the early Renaissance period. He wrote music during a time when new styles of art and music were becoming popular in Europe.

Life of a Composer

We don't know much about where Juan Cornago came from. He might have been Juan Carnago from Calahorra, a town in Spain. Between 1420 and 1429, he asked the Pope for special church jobs in different places.

We do know that Cornago was a Franciscan monk. He finished his studies at the University of Paris in 1449. After that, starting in 1453, he worked in Naples. He was part of the royal music group for King Alfonso V of Aragon.

When King Alfonso died, Cornago continued to work for his son, King Fernando I of Naples. Cornago became the most important songwriter at the Aragonese court in Naples. Later, in 1475, he moved to the music group of Fernando the Catholic, who had gone back to Spain.
