About Juan Luis Galiardo
Juan Luis Galiardo was born on March 2, 1940, in San Roque, Cádiz, Spain. He was the oldest of six children. He grew up mostly in Badajoz because his father found work there. After high school in Seville, he started studying engineering in Madrid. But his real passion was acting! In 1961, he left engineering to join Spain's National Film School. He learned to be an actor there. He started his acting journey in plays, working with famous directors.
Starting His Acting Career
Galiardo's first big movie role was in El arte de vivir (The Art of Living) in 1965. For the next 16 years, he acted in over 50 films. He became a very popular romantic lead actor in Spanish movies. People loved his good looks and charm. Some of his important early films include Stress es tres, tres (1968) and Clara is the Price (1974).
Working in Mexico
In 1979, Galiardo moved to Mexico. He lived there for five years. He acted in Mexican movies and popular TV shows. In 1982, he won the Heraldo award for best actor. This showed his talent was recognized internationally.
Return to Spain and New Roles
Galiardo came back to Spain in 1986. He kept acting but also started producing films. He created his own company, Penélope Films. He produced a TV series called Turno de oficio. He also produced movies like El disputado voto del señor Cayo.
His role in Turno de oficio helped him change his image. He started taking on more serious and challenging roles. This showed he could play many different characters. He starred in big projects like the TV series La regenta (1995).
Famous Roles and Awards
Juan Luis Galiardo acted in many memorable films during this time. These include The Little Spanish Soldier (1988) and Familia (1996). In 1999, he starred in Adiós con el corazón. For this film, he won the Goya Award for best actor in 2000. This is one of Spain's most important film awards.
He also played two very special roles. He was the only actor to play both Miguel de Cervantes and his famous character Don Quijote de la Mancha. He played Don Quijote in El caballero Don Quijote (2001). He played Cervantes in Miguel y William (2007).
In 2007, he played Fidel Castro in a comedy film called I Love Miami. His last movie was La chispa de la vida (2011). Juan Luis Galiardo passed away in Madrid on June 22, 2012, at the age of 72. He left behind a great legacy in Spanish acting.
