Juan de Aragón was an important leader in the Catholic Church. He served as the Archbishop of Zaragoza from 1458 to 1475. An archbishop is a high-ranking bishop who oversees a large area called an archdiocese.
Early Life and Family
Juan de Aragón was born in Spain in 1439. He was a son of John II of Aragon, who was the King of Aragon. Being part of a royal family meant he had connections that helped him in his career.
Becoming Archbishop
Juan de Aragón became the Archbishop of Zaragoza on June 30, 1458. He was appointed to this important role by Pope Callixtus III. This was a very significant position in the church during that time.
His Time as Archbishop
As Archbishop of Zaragoza, Juan de Aragón was responsible for leading the church in his region. He served in this role for many years. During his time, he also helped other bishops. For example, he helped consecrate Pedro Baldó as the Bishop of Segorbe-Albarracin in 1461. He also helped Jaime Perez de Valencia become an Auxiliary Bishop of Valencia in 1469.
Juan de Aragón remained Archbishop of Zaragoza until he passed away on November 19, 1475. He was 36 years old.
