About Juandalynn Givan
Juandalynn Givan is a lawyer and a politician. She works to represent the people of Jefferson County in the Alabama House of Representatives. She is known for speaking out on important issues.
Standing Up for Fairness
In May 2017, Givan spoke against a bill called the Alabama Memorial Preservation Act. This law would make it harder to remove old monuments in Alabama. She argued that this type of law made Alabama look bad. She felt it continued to show the state as being known for racism and discrimination.
Concerns About Local Policing
On January 27, 2022, Givan raised serious concerns about the police in Brookside, Alabama. She asked for the mayor, judge, and prosecutor of Brookside to step down. She stated that Brookside police had been stopping residents unfairly. She also mentioned that they were charging very high fees.
Givan spoke about concerns of racial profiling and harassment. She then asked Steve Marshall, the Attorney General, to investigate the situation. She also called for the mayor of Brookside to speak to the public. Givan shared her worry for the community of Forestdale. She said they had faced "torture and harassment" from the police.
She stressed how important it was to talk about police actions. She mentioned recent events that highlighted concerns about law enforcement. Givan also asked for Jim Wooten to resign. She felt he had helped in a "miscarriage of justice." She wanted to make sure that officials met high standards of professional behavior.

In November 2023, Givan announced she would run for a new position. She is seeking to represent Alabama's 2nd congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives. She is running as a Democrat in the primary election on March 5, 2024.
