Juanjo's Football Journey
Starting Out at Racing Santander
Juanjo was born in Santander, Spain. He began his professional football career with his hometown club, Racing de Santander. He made his first appearance in the top league, La Liga, during the 2004–05 season.
His very first La Liga game was on May 22, 2005. Racing de Santander lost that match 2–0 against Málaga CF. For the next two seasons, Juanjo was often used as a substitute player.
Loan Spells and New Teams
In the 2007–08 season, Juanjo was loaned to Sevilla FC's reserve team, Sevilla Atlético. A "loan" means a player temporarily plays for another team. He scored seven goals for Sevilla B, helping them stay in the Segunda División.
During this time, he also played one match for the main Sevilla FC team in La Liga. This happened on January 12, 2008, when he played for 30 minutes in a game against Athletic Bilbao.
In July 2008, Juanjo returned to Racing de Santander. He scored a goal in the first game of the 2008–09 season. This was a 1–1 draw at home against his former team, Sevilla.
Later, in 2009, Racing de Santander brought in another player, Nikola Žigić. This meant Juanjo was not needed as much. He was then loaned again, this time to Deportivo Alavés until the end of the season.
Moving On
After his time at Alavés, Juanjo went back to Racing de Santander. However, he was soon loaned out for a third time, joining Córdoba CF in August 2009. He played many games for Córdoba in the second division but only scored one goal.
After this, Racing de Santander decided to release him. Juanjo then signed permanently with another second-division club, UD Salamanca.
Later Career
Juanjo continued to play in the second division for several years. He played for teams like CD Numancia and SD Ponferradina. In the 2011–12 season, he scored eight goals in 34 games for Numancia. His goals helped the team finish in tenth place.
Later, Juanjo played for CD Tenerife, UE Llagostera, and UD Almería. He experienced relegation with Llagostera in 2016. Relegation means a team moves down to a lower league.
On August 2, 2017, Juanjo returned to his very first club, Racing de Santander. At this point, Racing was playing in the third league. He finished his professional career there.
