Juan José Expósito Ruiz (born October 28, 1985), known as Juanjo, is a Spanish former professional footballer. He played as a forward, which means he was a main goal-scorer for his teams.

Juanjo played in Spain's top football league, La Liga, for teams like Racing de Santander and Sevilla. He also spent ten seasons in the Segunda División, which is Spain's second-highest league. During his career, he played 276 matches and scored 43 goals in the Segunda División.

Juanjo's Football Journey

Juanjo started his professional football career with his hometown club, Racing de Santander, in the 2004–05 season. He played his first match in La Liga on May 22, 2005, when Racing lost to Málaga CF.

Playing for Sevilla's Reserve Team

In the 2007–08 season, Juanjo was loaned to Sevilla FC's reserve team, Sevilla Atlético. This team played in the Segunda División. He scored seven goals that season, helping the team stay in the league.

Because of some player injuries and international games, Juanjo also got to play one match for the main Sevilla FC team in La Liga. This happened on January 12, 2008, where he played for 30 minutes.

Returning to Racing and Loan Spells

In July 2008, Juanjo went back to Racing de Santander. In the first game of the 2008–09 season, he scored a goal as a substitute against his former team, Sevilla. The game ended in a 1–1 draw.

Later, in 2009, Racing brought in another forward, Nikola Žigić. This meant Juanjo was loaned out again. He joined Deportivo Alavés until the end of that season.

After his time with Alavés, Juanjo returned to Racing. In August 2009, he was loaned out for a third time, this time to Córdoba CF. He played many games for Córdoba in the 2009–10 Segunda División season, but only scored one goal. After this, Racing let him go, and he signed with UD Salamanca, another team in the second division.

Later Career in Segunda División

Juanjo continued to play in the Segunda División for several years. He played for CD Numancia and SD Ponferradina.

  • With CD Numancia in the 2011–12 season, he scored eight goals in 34 games. His goals helped the team finish in tenth place in the league.

Later in his career, Juanjo played for other second-tier teams like CD Tenerife, UE Llagostera, and UD Almería. He experienced relegation with Llagostera in 2016, meaning their team moved down to a lower league.

On August 2, 2017, Juanjo returned to his first club, Racing de Santander. At this point, Racing was playing in the third league.
