About Juanma Bajo Ulloa
Juanma Bajo Ulloa was born in Vitoria-Gasteiz, a city in Spain, on January 1, 1967. His parents helped him start his film career. They even used their house as a guarantee to get money for his first movies.
His first full-length movie was called Alas de Mariposa (which means Butterfly Wings). It came out in 1991 and won a big award called the Golden Shell at the San Sebastián Film Festival. This was a huge achievement for a first film!
With the money he earned from Alas de Mariposa, he made his second movie, La Madre Muerta (The Dead Mother). This film shows his special style. It mixes great filmmaking skills with a mood that feels like a slightly spooky fairy tale.
His third movie, Airbag (1997), was a massive hit. It made a lot of money and became the highest-earning Spanish film ever at that time. However, another movie broke that record a year later.
Since 1994, Juanma Bajo Ulloa has also directed and produced music videos. He has worked with popular Spanish musicians like Joaquín Sabina, Los Enemigos, and Barricada.
