Julen Aguinagalde Akizu is a famous Spanish handball player. He was born on December 8, 1982, in Irun, Spain. Julen played as a "pivot," which is a key position in handball, often playing close to the opponent's goal. He was a very important player for the Spanish national team for many years. After a long and successful career, he retired from playing in 2022.

Julen Aguinagalde's Handball Journey
Julen Aguinagalde started his handball career in his hometown. He joined the Bidasoa Irún club. In 1999, when he was just 17 years old, he began playing for the senior team. This team competed in the top Spanish handball league, called Liga ASOBAL.
Playing for Ademar León
In 2006, Julen moved to another strong Spanish team, Ademar León. While playing there, his team reached the final of a big European competition, the EHF European League, in 2007. They played against a German team, HSV Hamburg, but unfortunately lost. In 2008, Julen helped Ademar León win the Copa ASOBAL, which is a major cup competition in Spain.
Success with Ciudad Real
Julen joined BM Ciudad Real in 2009. This team was a big rival in the league. With Ciudad Real, he won the Spanish championship in 2010. He also helped the team win the Copa del Rey de Balonmano (King's Cup) two times, in 2011 and 2012.
European Champion in Poland
In 2013, Julen decided to play for a Polish team, PGE Vive Kielce. This was a very successful period for him. He won the Polish championship every year from 2014 to 2020. He also won the Polish Cup in 2019 and 2020. The biggest win came in 2016 when his team won the EHF Champions League. This is the most important club competition in European handball.
Returning Home and Retirement
In 2020, Julen Aguinagalde returned to his first club, Bidasoa Irún. He played for them for two more years. In 2022, he decided to retire from playing handball professionally. After retiring, he took on a new role at Bidasoa Irún. He became the Sporting Director, helping to manage the club from behind the scenes.
