Julián López Escobar (born October 3, 1982), often called El Juli, is a famous Spanish bullfighter. He started his career at a very young age and quickly became one of the most well-known bullfighters in the world.
About El Juli's Career
Julián López Escobar first faced a bull when he was only nine years old! His family then enrolled him in the Madrid Academy of Tauromachy, a special school for bullfighting.
After studying for several years, Julián moved to Mexico. He went there to take part in bullfights because in Spain, young bullfighters (called novilleros) had to be at least 16 years old.
On March 16, 1997, when he was just 14, López Escobar made his official bullfighting debut in Texcoco, Mexico. He did so well that the crowd gave him a standing ovation, and he was awarded two bulls' ears, which is a big honor.
About a year later, on September 18, 1998, Julián received his alternativa in Nîmes, France. This ceremony officially made him a professional bullfighter, or matador. He was only 15 years old, making him the youngest professional bullfighter ever!
By the time he was 17, Julián El Juli had become the highest-paid bullfighter in history. He was known for sometimes placing his own banderillas (spiked banners) during the fight. This job is usually done by another person called a banderillero. In 1999, he performed 134 times, and in three of those shows, he was the only matador.
El Juli's Family Life
Julián López Escobar married Rosario Domecq Márquez on October 20, 2007, in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain.
They became parents to twins, a girl named Rosario and a boy named Fernando, on September 6, 2011. Later, on March 26, 2014, they welcomed another daughter named Isabel.
