Julia Otero's Life Story
Julia Otero was born in Monforte de Lemos, Spain. When she was three years old, her family moved to Barcelona. She grew up in the El Poble-sec neighborhood.
Early Career in Radio
Julia studied Spanish philology at the University of Barcelona. When she was 17, a friend helped her get started in radio. She joined a program called Protagonista, el cine on Radio Sabadell. Soon, she was not just presenting but also directing the show!
Between the ages of 19 and 24, Julia faced a health challenge. She had an abdominal tumor and needed several surgeries. But even during this time, she kept working on the radio.
Joining New Radio Stations
In 1980, Julia started working at Radio Juventud in Barcelona. A year later, she moved to Radio Miramar. There, she presented many different shows. These included Radio a la vista, a comedy show called Bruja más que bruja, and a music show, Con faldas y a lo loco. She also hosted Café del domingo, where she interviewed people.
In 1985, Julia began directing and presenting a morning show called Crónica del alba. This show was broadcast across Spain.
Starting in Television
Julia began her television career in 1987. Her first TV show was Una historia particular on La 2. In the same year, she married journalist Ramón Pellicer.

During this time, she also worked on TV. She presented Jocs de Nit on TV3 in 1992. In 1993, she directed a contest show called Los cinco sentidos on Antena 3. She also hosted Un paseo por el tiempo (1995) on TVE and La semana que viene (1998) on Telecinco.
A Change at Onda Cero
In 1999, the owners of Onda Cero changed. The new owners decided to cancel La radio de Julia. This was a surprise because her show was very popular. Many people felt it was a political decision. The network said the show was too "intellectual."
Julia's show had many famous people as guests and contributors. These included writers like Almudena Grandes and politicians like Josep Borrell.
Back to TV and Radio Again
A year later, Julia went back to TV3. She presented a news magazine show called La columna. This show was also very successful and ran for four seasons. From 2004 to 2005, she hosted Las cerezas on TVE.
From 2006 to 2007, Julia directed and presented Protagonistas (radio series)
on Punto Radio. At the same time, she hosted No em ratllis! on TV3.In 2007, Julia Otero returned to Onda Cero. She started presenting Julia en la onda
. This was a big moment, as she returned to the same network that had let her go in 1999. Her good relationship with the president of Planeta Group, which owns Onda Cero, helped her return.In 2009, Julia was honored as the "favorite daughter" of her hometown, Monforte de Lemos. She was the first woman to receive this special award.
In recent years, she has continued to appear on television. In 2012, she presented Entrevista a la carta
