Julian Fletcher Dunn-Johnson, born on July 11, 2000, is a Canadian professional soccer player. He plays as a centre-back, which is a type of defender, for the HFX Wanderers FC team. They play in the Canadian Premier League.
Club Career
Julian Dunn has played for several soccer clubs throughout his career. He started in youth academies and worked his way up to professional teams.
Toronto FC II
On June 29, 2017, Julian Dunn joined Toronto FC II. This team plays in the USL. He made his first game appearance on July 1. This game was a 4–3 loss to the Harrisburg City Islanders. Later, on August 13, Dunn received his first red card. This happened during a 3–1 loss against Bethlehem Steel.
Toronto FC
On April 13, 2018, Dunn signed with MLS team Toronto FC. He became a "homegrown player." This means he came up through the club's own youth system. He was the 18th player to join the first team this way. The next day, Dunn played his first game for Toronto FC. He came in as a substitute in the 76th minute. The team lost 2–0 to the Colorado Rapids.
Toronto FC kept Dunn for the 2020 season. Sometimes, he was sent to play with the second team on loan. On August 10, 2020, Dunn was loaned to Canadian Premier League team Valour FC. He played his first game for Valour on August 16 against Cavalry FC. Dunn played every minute of every game for Valour during the 2020 season. His strong play earned him a nomination for the league's U21 Canadian Player of the Year Award. However, Mohamed Farsi won the award that year.
When Dunn returned to Toronto for the 2021 MLS season, he didn't play much. He had several injuries that year. He only played in two games for the first team. After the season ended, his contract with Toronto FC finished. He then left the club.
HamKam
In December 2021, Julian Dunn signed a two-year deal with Eliteserien club HamKam. This team is from Norway. He played his first game for HamKam on April 2, 2022. It was their first game of the season against Lillestrøm. In late May, Dunn got a serious injury that ended his season. He missed almost two full seasons because of this injury. He finally returned to playing in January 2024, after 20 months away.
HFX Wanderers
In February 2024, Dunn signed with HFX Wanderers FC. This is a Canadian Premier League club. His contract was for the 2024 season, with a chance to play in 2025 too. He made his first appearance for the Wanderers on April 13. This was the first game of the season for the team, and they played against Pacific FC.
International Career
Julian Dunn can play for either Canada or Jamaica. His father was born in Saint Mary, Jamaica. His mother was born in Hanover, Jamaica.
In April 2017, Dunn was chosen for Canada's Under-17 team. He was part of the 20-player squad for the 2017 CONCACAF U-17 Championship. He played his first international game on April 22. It was a 2–1 loss to Costa Rica. He also played in two other games in that tournament. These were against Cuba and Suriname.
In May 2018, Dunn was named to Canada's Under-21 team. They played in the 2018 Toulon Tournament. On October 24, 2018, he was also chosen for the Canadian U20 team. They played in the 2018 CONCACAF U-20 Championship. Later, on February 26, 2020, Dunn was named to the Canadian U-23 team. This was for the 2020 CONCACAF Men's Olympic Qualifying Championship.
