Julianne Nicholson (born July 1, 1971) is an American actress. She is famous for her roles in movies and TV shows. Some of her best-known works include the film August: Osage County (2013) and the TV series Law & Order: Criminal Intent (2006–2009). She also starred in Eyewitness (2016) and Mare of Easttown (2021). For her role in Mare of Easttown, she won a big award called the Primetime Emmy Award.
Julianne has also appeared in many other popular films and shows. These include Tully (2000), Ally McBeal (2001–2002), Kinsey (2004), and Boardwalk Empire (2011–2013). She was also in Black Mass (2015), I, Tonya (2017), Togo (2019), and Blonde (2022).

Early Life and Education
Julianne Nicholson was born on July 1, 1971. She grew up in Medford, Massachusetts, which is a town near Boston. She is the oldest of four children. Her parents are Kate and James O. Nicholson Jr.
After finishing high school at Arlington Catholic High School, Julianne tried modeling in New York City for six months. She took a break, then modeled in Paris for another six months. When she came back to New York, she studied at Hunter College for two years. To support herself, she worked as a waitress. Eventually, she left college to focus on studying acting and start her career as an actress.

She left the show for a short time when she had her second child.
Later, in 2011, she appeared on Royal Pains and had a recurring role on Boardwalk Empire as Esther Randolph. In 2012, she was a guest star on The Good Wife.
In 2016, Julianne played the main character, Sheriff Helen Torrance, in the police drama Eyewitness on the USA Network.
One of her most celebrated roles came in 2021. She starred in the HBO series Mare of Easttown as Lori Ross, the best friend of the main character, Mare Sheehan (played by Kate Winslet). This show was very popular and broke viewing records for HBO. Julianne's acting in the series was highly praised, especially her emotional performance in the final episode. This role won her a Primetime Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Limited Series. She was also nominated for a Critics Choice Award for this role.

Personal Life
In 2004, Julianne Nicholson married British actor Jonathan Cake in Italy. They first met when they were playing a couple in a TV show that was never aired. Julianne and Jonathan have two children together: a son named Ignatius and a daughter named Phoebe Margaret.
