Junji Koizumi (小泉 淳嗣, Koizumi Junji, born January 11, 1968) is a former Japanese football player. He played as a defender, which means his main job was to stop the other team from scoring goals. Koizumi spent most of his career playing for teams in Japan, including Yokohama Marinos and Yokohama Flügels.

Junji Koizumi's Football Journey

Junji Koizumi was born in Tochigi Prefecture, Japan, on January 11, 1968. He started his professional football journey in 1988. He joined a team called Nissan Motors. This team later became known as Yokohama Marinos.

Koizumi began playing regularly for Nissan Motors in 1990. He was a versatile player, often playing as a center back (a defender in the middle) or a defensive midfielder (a player who helps defend and also starts attacks). During his time with Nissan Motors/Yokohama Marinos, the club won several important tournaments.

Winning Trophies with Yokohama Marinos

His team won the JSL Cup in 1990. They also won the Emperor's Cup in 1991 and 1992. These were big achievements in Japanese football. On the international stage, the club also won the Asian Cup Winners' Cup twice, in 1991–92 and 1992–93.

In 1995, Koizumi found fewer chances to play for Yokohama Marinos. So, he decided to move to a rival team in Yokohama, called Yokohama Flügels. He played for Yokohama Flügels for two seasons.

Later Career and Retirement

In 1997, Koizumi moved to Kawasaki Frontale, a team in the Japan Football League. He played one season there before deciding to retire from professional football at the end of 1997.

Junji Koizumi played a total of 126 league matches during his career, scoring 3 goals. He was a dedicated defender who helped his teams achieve many victories.
