Junjuwa is a large Aboriginal community. It is located inside the town of Fitzroy Crossing in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. This area is part of the Shire of Derby-West Kimberley.
Junjuwa's History
The Junjuwa community was first started between 1974 and 1976. In the 1970s, government rules sometimes brought different Aboriginal language groups together. Over time, the mix of people in Junjuwa changed. Now, the local Bunuba people are the main group living there.
How Junjuwa is Managed
The Junjuwa community is looked after by an organization called the Bunuba Aboriginal Corporation. This group was officially formed on September 16, 1991. It helps manage the community's daily life and future plans.
Community Planning
Junjuwa has a special plan called "Junjuwa Layout Plan No.1". This plan helps guide how the community grows and develops. The community agreed to this plan on February 24, 2004. The Western Australian Planning Commission also approved it on April 8, 2008. This plan makes sure new buildings and areas are set up in a good way for everyone.
