Justus Esiri (born November 20, 1942 – died February 19, 2013) was a famous Nigerian actor. Many people thought he was one of the most important actors in Nollywood, which is Nigeria's film industry. His acting career started a long time ago, in the 1960s.

He became very well-known for his part in a popular TV show called The Village Headmaster. He also acted in the movie based on Chinua Achebe's famous book, Things Fall Apart. After he passed away, he won an award for Best Actor at the 9th Africa Movie Academy Awards for his role in Assassins Practice. He also received the first "Goodluck Jonathan Lifetime Achievement award" at the 2013 Nollywood Movies Awards. The Nigerian government honored him with a special award, Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON). This was for his great work in helping Nigerian movies grow. Justus Esiri was also the father of the popular musician Dr Sid.

Early Life and Acting Career

Justus Esiri was born in Oria-Abraka, which is in Delta State, Nigeria. This was on November 20, 1942. He went to Urhobo College in Effurun, Bendel State, for his schooling.

Later, he traveled to Germany to continue his education. He studied at Maximillan University in Munich in 1964. He also attended Prof. Weners Institute of Engineering in West Berlin in 1967. In 1968, he went to the Ahrens School of Performing Arts.

While he was living in Europe, he started his acting journey. He worked as a German translator for Voice of Nigeria, which is a radio station. The Nigerian Government then invited him to come back home. They wanted him to star in the TV show "The Village Headmaster." He accepted the invitation and returned to Nigeria.

His Passing and Lasting Impact

Justus Esiri passed away in a hospital in Lagos on February 19, 2013. He had health problems related to diabetes. Many people gathered to remember him. The Actors Guild of Nigeria held a special tribute night at the National Stadium on April 8, 2013.

A church service was held at St. Jude Catholic Church in Lagos the next day. A Service of Songs also took place in Warri. His body was then taken to his hometown of Abraka for his final resting place. Many government officials and famous people from the entertainment world attended his funeral.
