Jüri Parijõgi (born Jüri Parinbak, changing his name in 1935) was an important Estonian children's writer and teacher. He was born on September 2, 1892, and is known as the first Estonian writer who focused almost entirely on books for children and young people.

Jüri Parijõgi took part in two big conflicts: World War I and the Estonian War of Independence. Later, from 1929 to 1931, he studied at the University of Tartu. He was interested in philosophy, which is about big ideas and how we think. Sadly, he passed away on July 9, 1941, while he was held in Tartu Prison.

Jüri Parijõgi wrote many stories that became very popular with young readers. His books often taught important lessons and took children on exciting adventures. He had a special talent for understanding what children enjoyed reading.
