After studying at the Higher Party School, he took on more important roles. From 1954, he worked as a secretary. He became the first secretary of a local party group in Chongrad. He held this position until 1959.
Rising Through the Ranks
In 1957, Károly Németh became a member of the Central Committee. This was a key group within the Hungarian Socialist Workers' Party (HSWP). From 1960 to 1965, he led the agricultural department of the HSWP Central Committee.
He continued to gain influence within the party. In 1966, he became a candidate for the Politburo. This was the most powerful group in the HSWP. By November 1970, he became a full member of the Politburo. He remained a member until 1989.
Németh also served as a secretary of the HSWP Central Committee. He held this role from 1962 to 1965. He returned to this position from March 1974 to 1985.
