Kaimata is a small place, or locality, located in the Taranaki region of New Zealand. It's about 7.5 kilometers (4.7 miles) east of a town called Inglewood. The Manganui River flows nearby to the west. Kaimata, like many other small towns in the area, was first set up to help the local dairy farms.
What Does Kaimata Mean?
The name Kaimata comes from the Māori language. The Ministry for Culture and Heritage in New Zealand explains that "Kaimata" means "eat raw food."
Who Lives in Kaimata?
The Kaimata area is home to many people. A count of the population, called a census, was done in 2013. This census showed that about 2,778 people lived in the Kaimata statistical area. This was an increase of 177 people since the 2006 census.
It's important to know that the "statistical area" for Kaimata is quite large. It includes the small locality of Kaimata itself, plus a big region around and to the east of Inglewood.
Education
Kaimata School is a school for both boys and girls. It teaches students from year 1 to year 8, which covers primary school ages. As of February 2024. , the school has a roll of 110 students.
