The Merger of Towns
On April 1, 2005, Kanose joined with several other nearby towns and villages. These included the town of Tsugawa and the villages of Kamikawa and Mikawa. All of these places were also in the Higashikanbara District. Together, they merged to form a new, larger town called Aga. This merger helped combine resources and services for the communities.
Environmental Event
In 1964, an important environmental event happened in the area near Kanose. A chemical factory released a substance called methylmercury into the Agano River. This pollution caused health problems for some people who lived near the river and used its resources. This environmental issue became known as Niigata Minamata disease. It was a serious event that highlighted the importance of protecting our rivers and natural environments.
