Kanze Dena was born in Kwale County, Kenya. Her family belongs to the Duruma people. The Duruma are part of the larger Mijikenda community.

She grew up in different parts of Kenya, including Kwale and Nairobi. She went to Kianjokoma Primary School. Later, she attended Kieni Girls High School. She finished high school in 1997.

Kanze Dena first wanted to study medicine. She tried to join the Kenya Medical Training College. When that didn't work out, she decided to study journalism. She learned about Journalism and Mass Communication at the Foundation College of Professional Studies.

Kanze Dena's Career in Journalism

Kanze Dena started her journalism journey as an intern. She worked at Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) radio. There, she read the news in Swahili. Later, she became a news anchor for KBC TV. She worked there for six years.

After KBC, she moved to Citizen TV. This is where she became very famous in Kenya. At Citizen TV, she often anchored the news with Lulu Hassan. They worked together on the show Nipashe Wikendi for nearly six years.

Working for the President

In June 2018, Kanze Dena left Citizen TV. She was appointed as the Deputy State House Spokesperson. This meant she helped speak for the President. She also became the Deputy Head of the President's Strategic Communication Unit (PSCU).

In this role, she helped manage digital communication. She also worked on messaging, research, and press for the President's office. This was part of President Uhuru Kenyatta's plans for the country.

Today, Kanze Dena serves as the main spokesperson. She leads the President's Strategic Communication Unit (PSCU). Her job is to share important information from the President's office.
