Kaohsiung Mosque

The Kaohsiung Mosque is an important place of worship for Muslims in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. It holds a special place in history as the second mosque ever built in Taiwan. A mosque is a building where Muslims gather for prayer and community activities.

History of the Kaohsiung Mosque

Building the First Mosque

In 1949, the very first Kaohsiung Mosque was built. Many Muslims came to Taiwan around this time. They were part of the Nationalist Army and their families, who moved from mainland China. This happened after a big conflict called the Chinese Civil War. These Muslims needed a place to pray and connect with their community. So, some Muslim officers working for the government suggested building a mosque.

Moving to New Locations

The first Kaohsiung Mosque was located on Wufu 4th Road in Kaohsiung City. However, it soon became too small for everyone who wanted to pray there. Just two years later, in 1951, the mosque moved to a bigger spot on Linsen 1st Road. This new location could welcome more people.

The community continued to grow, and the mosque needed even more space. So, in 1990, the mosque moved again to its current location on Jianjun Road. The new building was officially opened in April 1992. Today, it continues to be a central place for the Muslim community in Kaohsiung.
