Karen Cushman (born October 4, 1941) is an American author. She is well-known for writing exciting historical fiction books, especially for young readers.
About Karen Cushman's Books
Karen Cushman is famous for her historical fiction novels. Her book The Midwife's Apprentice won the Newbery Medal in 1996. This is a very important award for children's literature! Another one of her popular books, Catherine, Called Birdy, received a Newbery Honor in 1995.
Karen studied Greek and English at Stanford University. She also earned master's degrees in human behavior and museum studies. Before becoming a full-time writer, she taught museum studies for eleven years. Today, she lives and writes on Vashon Island, Washington.
