From 2006 to 2012, he represented the area called Stuart in the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly. This is like the local parliament for the Northern Territory.

Karl Hampton first became a politician in 2006. This happened during a special election called a "by-election" for the Stuart area. He won this election after the previous representative, Peter Toyne, left his job.
He was very popular and was easily re-elected in 2008. This meant people voted for him again to continue representing them.
Losing His Political Seat
In 2012, many people thought Karl Hampton would win again easily. However, he lost the election to his aunt, Bess Price. She was a candidate for the Country Liberal Party.
