Karlo is a small, quiet place in Lassen County, California. It's known as an unincorporated community. This means it's a small settlement that isn't officially part of a city or town.

Karlo is located in a beautiful spot called the Secret Valley. It's about 20 miles (32 km) east-northeast of a bigger town called Susanville. Karlo sits at an elevation of 4,432 feet (1,351 meters) above sea level.

A Peek into Karlo's Past

Karlo wasn't always called Karlo! It used to be known as Secret. This community has an interesting history, especially with its post office.

The Story of the Post Office

The first post office in this area opened in 1892, and it was called "Secret." However, it closed just three years later in 1895. Luckily, it reopened in 1896, giving people a way to send and receive mail again.

In 1911, the name of the post office changed from Secret to Karlo. This new name was chosen to honor a man named Frank De Carlow. He was an important person in the area, having settled nearby in 1886. The Karlo post office continued to serve the community until it closed for good in 1934.
