Karnparnmi is a small Aboriginal community located in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. It is found close to Fitzroy Crossing and is part of the Shire of Derby–West Kimberley. Karnparnmi is right next to the larger Bayulu community.
Many people living in Karnparnmi used to live in Bayulu. The first house in Karnparnmi was built around 1997 and is still an important part of the community. The people who live here are from the Gooniyandi and Walmajarri language groups. About seven adults and their children live permanently in the community's six homes.

Understanding Native Title
Native title is a special legal right that recognises the traditional laws and customs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples over their land and waters. It means that Indigenous people have rights to use and enjoy their traditional lands.
Native Title in Karnparnmi
The Karnparnmi community is located within an area that has a registered native title claim. This claim is known as the Gooniyandi Combined 2 native title claim (WC2000/010). This means the Gooniyandi people have recognised traditional rights to this land.
Community Planning and Development
Town planning is like creating a map and rules for how a town or community will grow and develop. It helps decide where houses, roads, and other important buildings should go. This planning helps make sure communities are well-organised and have what they need.
Karnparnmi's Development Plan
A plan for Karnparnmi, called "Karnparnmi Layout Plan No.1," was created in 2009. This plan followed a special rule called State Planning Policy 3.2 Aboriginal Settlements. This policy helps guide how Aboriginal communities are planned and developed in Western Australia.
The community and the Western Australian Planning Commission still need to officially approve this plan. The Karnparnmi plan has been included within the larger Bayulu community plan. You can find more details about this plan on the Planning Western Australia website.
