Kate Osborne's Political Journey

Before becoming an MP, Kate Osborne worked for Royal Mail for 25 years. Her first step into politics was in 2009. She ran in a special election for the Preston ward in North Tyneside. A ward is a local area within a town or city. She did not win that election.

Becoming a Member of Parliament

In the 2019 United Kingdom general election, Kate Osborne was elected to the House of Commons. This is the main part of the UK Parliament. She became the MP for Jarrow. This area is known as a "safe seat" for the Labour Party. This means Labour usually wins there easily. She took over from the previous Labour MP, Stephen Hepburn.

Supporting Workers' Rights

In June 2022, there were railway strikes in the UK. Kate Osborne joined the railway workers on their picket line. A picket line is where striking workers stand to protest. She said, "Solidarity to workers on strike today, they have my full support." This showed her support for the workers.
