In 2001, Katherine Dodds started a company called Good Company Communications Inc. It's better known as Hello Cool World. Dodds is the creative leader and planner for all of Hello Cool World's projects.
Hello Cool World is famous for helping with the movie The Corporation. They designed its logo and helped spread the word about it. This movie was a big hit and won awards. Hello Cool World still works to connect the film to movements that want to reduce harm caused by large companies.
Hello Cool World also helps schools get copies of The Corporation (directed by Mark Achbar and Jennifer Abbott). They even worked with Mark Achbar to make a special three-part DVD version for high schools. The company also helps distribute other important films in Canada, like the award-winning documentary 65 Redroses. They also help schools get the 2017 film Indian Horse, which is based on a book by Richard Wagamese.
What is an Impact Producer?
In 2016, Katherine Dodds was featured in a book called Story Money Impact: Funding Media for Social Change. The book highlighted her work as an "Impact Producer." An Impact Producer helps movies and other media projects create real-world change and get people involved.
Dodds is currently the Impact Producer for The New Corporation. This is a sequel to the first Corporation film, directed by Joel Bakan and Jennifer Abbott. She is also leading a digital project called "TheNewCorporation.app." This project works with a new platform for getting people involved, called "Cool.World".
In 2021, Dodds and Joel Bakan took a stand for freedom of speech. They filed a challenge because Twitter would not let them advertise The New Corporation film. They believed this stopped people from learning important ideas.
Early Career
From 1992 to 1997, Katherine Dodds worked for Adbusters magazine. She was a marketing manager and an associate editor. During this time, she gave talks about Adbusters' work and their campaigns.
Writing and Art
Dodds is the writer of a book called Picturing Transformation Nexw-áyantsut. It was published in October 2013. The book features amazing photographs by Nancy Bleck, who helped start the Uts'am Witness Project. Dodds wrote the book with Nancy Bleck and Squamish Nation Hereditary Chief Bill Williams.
Education
Katherine Dodds studied painting at the University of Victoria in the 1980s. She graduated with honors in 1985. Later, in 1998, she earned a master's degree with distinction from the University of Leeds in the UK. Her studies focused on feminist theory and visual arts.
Awards
In 2006, Katherine Dodds received an "Artistic Achievement Award" from Women in Film Video Vancouver. This award recognized her great work in multi-media.
In 2019, Dodds also received a BC Community Achievement Award.
