Katherine Southwell was an English lady who lived in the 1600s. She was a "courtier," which means she worked for and spent time with the royal family. Katherine was part of the household of Anne of Denmark, who was the Queen of England and Scotland at that time.
Katherine was the daughter of Sir Robert Southwell and Elizabeth Howard. Her grandfather was Charles Howard, 1st Earl of Nottingham, a very important person in English history.
Katherine worked for Queen Anne of Denmark alongside her sisters, Elizabeth Southwell and Frances Southwell. In 1612, when Prince Henry (the Queen's son) passed away, Katherine and Frances were given special mourning clothes, showing their close connection to the royal family. Katherine Southwell passed away in April 1657.
Family Life
In 1618, Katherine Southwell married Greville Verney, 7th Baron Willoughby de Broke. He was a nobleman with an important title. Together, they had several children:
