Katrin Gebbe (born in 1983) is a talented German film director and screenwriter. This means she not only directs movies but also writes the stories for them.

Katrin Gebbe's Early Life and Education

Katrin Gebbe studied art and visual communication at the Academy of Visual Arts in Enschede. Here, she created her very first short film, which was an experimental film. Experimental films often try new and unusual ways of telling a story.

In 2005, she continued her studies at the Hamburg Media School. She focused on film direction, learning how to lead the making of movies. Her final project there was a short film called Şoreş & Şîrîn. This film even won an award at the Chicago International Children's Film Festival! It received the 'Adult Jury Prize' for short films. In 2009, Şoreş & Şîrîn also won the 'European Young Civis media prize'.

Directing Feature Films

Katrin Gebbe's first full-length movie was Nothing Bad Can Happen. The German title for this film is Tore tanzt. This movie tells the story of a young man from Hamburg.

This film was chosen to be shown at the famous 66th Cannes Film Festival in 2013. This is a very important film festival in France. The movie had its first public showing there on May 23, 2013. Katrin Gebbe and the film's producer, Verena Höfe-Gräft, had met in college. They started working on this movie together in 2009.

For Nothing Bad Can Happen, Katrin Gebbe received two special awards. She won the 2013 Preis der deutschen Filmkritik for the best first feature film. She also received the Bavarian Film Awards for the best new director.
