Katy (2015) is a popular children's book written by the famous author Jacqueline Wilson. It's a modern version of an old classic called What Katy Did. Jacqueline Wilson loved the original book when she was young. Later, as a mother, she read it to her daughter. She realized some of the old lessons in the book didn't quite fit today's world. So, she decided to rewrite the story, making it fresh and new for modern readers.

The Story of Katy
Katy is a lively girl who has five younger brothers and sisters. She's really good at looking after them. But Katy is also very adventurous and loves taking risks! She enjoys skateboarding and going on exciting adventures. She especially loves the feeling of soaring high, like when her mum used to push her on a swing. These are happy memories for her, as her mum has passed away.
A Secret Garden and a Big Fall
Katy and her siblings often sneak into their neighbors' backyard. They call it their "secret garden." One day, Katy's step-mum, Izzy, grounds her for sneaking out. So, Katy takes a rope to the secret garden. She builds a swing in a tree. But then, she falls out of the tree. This accident is very serious. Katy breaks her spine and cannot move her legs. She becomes paralyzed from the waist down.
Life in Hospital and New Friends
While Katy is in the hospital, she meets a cool older boy named Dexter. They quickly become good friends. This difficult time also helps Katy build better relationships. She starts to get along better with her stepmother and her stepsister.
Returning to School
After Katy leaves the hospital, she starts attending secondary school. Her friends have already started there. Katy finds it hard at first because she is in a wheelchair. But slowly, she learns an important lesson. She realizes that her disability does not define who she is. It doesn't stop her from being herself.
A Happy Ending
The book ends at Christmas time. Katy receives many presents from the people around her. One of these special gifts is a brand new wheelchair.
TV Show
In June 2017, CBBC announced they would make a TV show based on the book. It was planned as a three-part series. The TV series called "Katy" began airing on 14 March 2018.
