Bridge History

The Kauffman's Distillery Covered Bridge was first built in 1857. A builder named James C. Carpenter constructed it. It cost about $1,185 to build back then. The bridge got its name from the Kauffman's Distillery Mill, which was nearby in the late 1800s.

In 1874, the bridge needed to be rebuilt. Elias McMellen did the work, and it cost $1,620. This shows that people cared about keeping the bridge in good shape.
