The Kauffman Motor Vehicle Company was an early American car company. It was a pioneer during the "brass era" of automobiles. This company built cars in Miamisburg, Ohio, from 1909 to 1912.
The Story of Kauffman Cars
The company began in 1906 as the Kauffman Buggy Company. At first, they made parts like car bodies and chassis. These parts were for the Hatfield Motor Vehicle Company, which was also in Miamisburg.
Merging Companies
In 1908, Hatfield Motor Vehicle Company faced money problems. So, the two companies decided to join together. They formed a new company called the Advance Motor Vehicle Company.
Under the Advance name, they introduced a new car. It was a four-passenger roadster. A roadster is a car with two seats and no roof, or a removable roof. This car had a special four-cylinder engine. It was built on a 104-inch (2642 mm) wheelbase. The wheelbase is the distance between the front and back wheels. This car model was called the Model C. It sold for about US$1000.
The Final Years
In 1911, the Advance company changed its name again. It became the Kauffman Motor Car Company. However, the company did not last much longer. It closed down the very next year, in 1912.
