Kawaramachi Station facts for kids
Kawaramachi Station (河原町駅, Kawaramachi eki) is a train station in Kyoto, Japan. It is the very last stop, or "terminal station," for the Hankyu Kyoto Line. This line is run by Hankyu Railway.
The station is located underground. Above it, two important streets, Kawaramachi and Shijo street, cross each other. Another train station, Keihan Shijo Station, is just across the Kamo River.

Kawaramachi Station is in a very busy part of Kyoto. This area is one of the main shopping and business centers. Because it's such a popular spot, the land around the station is the most valuable in all of Kyoto.

The station is connected underground to large department stores. One of these is Takashimaya, which even has a big food market in its basement. You can also walk underground from Kawaramachi Station to Karasuma Station. This makes it easy to get around without going outside.
Station History
Kawaramachi Station first opened on June 17, 1963. Before it opened, the Hankyu Kyoto Line used to end at Ōmiya Station. The opening of Kawaramachi Station made it easier for people to reach the heart of Kyoto.
