Kay Rose (born February 12, 1922 – died December 11, 2002) was a talented American sound editor. A sound editor is like a movie magician who creates and mixes all the sounds you hear in a film, from footsteps to explosions! Kay Rose was especially famous for her amazing work in movies and TV shows. She made history by becoming the first woman sound editor to win an Academy Award, also known as an Oscar.

Kay Rose worked on many films and TV shows from 1954 to 1999. She helped create the sounds for 68 different projects!
Her Amazing Awards
Kay Rose received a special Special Achievement Academy Award in 1985. This award was for her excellent sound editing work on the film The River. Winning an Oscar is a huge honor in the movie world.
She was also the first female sound editor ever to win an Oscar, which was a big step for women in the film industry!
Later in her career, Kay Rose received more important awards:
- In 1999, she got the Lifetime Achievement award from the Motion Picture Sound Editors. This award celebrates someone's long and successful career.
- In 2002, she received the CAS Career Achievement Award from the Cinema Audio Society. This award also honors a person's great achievements over many years.
Family Life
Kay Rose was married to film editor Sherman A. Rose in 1951. Their marriage later ended in divorce. They had one daughter together, Victoria Rose Sampson. Victoria also followed in her mother's footsteps and became a sound editor!
