Kayle Kirby, born on October 26, 1998, is a former professional Australian rules footballer. He played for the Collingwood Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He also played for their reserves team in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Kayle had to stop playing football because of a heart condition. This was discovered after he collapsed during a practice game.
Kayle's Early Football Days
Kayle grew up in Swan Hill. He started playing senior football for the Tyntynder Football Club when he was only 16 years old. He then played for the Bendigo Pioneers in the TAC Cup competition. This was during the 2015 and 2016 seasons. In 2016, he was a great goal scorer, kicking 32 goals.
In 2016, Kayle also played two games for the Richmond Football Club's VFL team. He made a big impact, scoring nine goals in total. Five of those goals came in his very first game!
Playing in the AFL
The Collingwood Football Club chose Kayle in the 2016 AFL draft. He was picked as the 50th player overall. He made his official debut in the AFL in 2017. This was against the Melbourne team at the famous Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Even though he only played one AFL game, Kayle was a star for Collingwood's reserves team. He kicked 43 goals in the 2017 VFL season. This made him the third-highest goal scorer in the entire league that year.
A Difficult Decision
On March 31, 2018, something serious happened. Kayle collapsed during a VFL practice match. He was taken to the hospital right away. Doctors found that he had a heart condition. Because of this, Kayle had to make a very tough decision. At the end of the 2018 AFL season, he retired from professional football.
