Kazuyori Mochizuki (望月 一頼, Mochizuki Kazuyori, born November 20, 1961) is a Japanese football coach and former player. He was a goalkeeper during his playing days. He is well-known for his long career with Sanfrecce Hiroshima, both as a player and later as a coach and manager.

Playing Career

Kazuyori Mochizuki was born in Shizuoka, Japan, on November 20, 1961. After finishing university, he joined a football club called Mazda in 1984. This club later became known as Sanfrecce Hiroshima.

He mostly played as a back-up goalkeeper, meaning he was ready to play if the main goalkeeper couldn't. He didn't get to play in any official games before he first retired in 1988. After that, he started working as a coach for the same club.

In 1992, a new football league called the J1 League was started in Japan. Kazuyori Mochizuki came out of retirement because his old club, Sanfrecce Hiroshima, had many injured players. Even though he returned, he still didn't play in any games. He retired for good at the end of the 1994 season.

Coaching Career

After his playing career, Mochizuki began coaching at Mazda (which became Sanfrecce Hiroshima) in 1988. He mostly worked as a coach for goalkeepers.

In 1998, he became the goalkeeper coach for the Japan national team. He also coached the Japan U-20 national team and the Japan U-23 national team. The U-20 team finished second in the 1999 World Youth Championship. In 2000, the Japan national team won the Asian Cup.

In 2001, he returned to Sanfrecce Hiroshima as their goalkeeper coach. In April 2006, he took over as the main manager for a short time. He managed the team for four matches until June 2006. After that, he went back to being the goalkeeper coach until 2011.

From 2012, he became a director for the youth team. He then managed the youth team from 2013 to 2014, helping younger players develop their skills.
