Kazuyori Mochizuki (望月 一頼, Mochizuki Kazuyori, born November 20, 1961) is a Japanese football coach and former player. He is known for his long career in Japanese football, especially as a goalkeeper coach for both club teams and the national team.

Playing Football: Kazuyori Mochizuki's Time as a Goalkeeper

Kazuyori Mochizuki was born in Shizuoka, Japan, on November 20, 1961. After finishing his studies at the University of Tsukuba, he joined a football club called Mazda in 1984. This club later became known as Sanfrecce Hiroshima.

During his time as a player, Mochizuki was a goalkeeper. He mostly served as a backup player, which means he didn't play in many official games. He retired from playing in 1988.

A few years later, in 1992, he made a brief return to playing. His old club, Sanfrecce Hiroshima, had many injured players. Mochizuki helped out during this difficult time. However, he still did not play in any matches and retired again at the end of the 1994 season.

Coaching Career: From Goalkeeper to Coach

After his playing days, Kazuyori Mochizuki started a successful career as a coach. He began coaching at Mazda (which became Sanfrecce Hiroshima) in 1988. He mainly worked as a coach for goalkeepers.

Coaching the Japan National Team

In November 1998, Mochizuki became the goalkeeper coach for the Japan national team. He worked under the manager Philippe Troussier. He also coached younger national teams. He helped the Japan U-20 national team reach the finals of the 1999 World Youth Championship. He also coached the Japan U-23 national team at the 2000 Summer Olympics. In October 2000, the Japan national team won the Asian Cup with Mochizuki as part of the coaching staff.

Returning to Sanfrecce Hiroshima

In 2001, Mochizuki returned to Sanfrecce Hiroshima as their goalkeeper coach. In April 2006, he briefly took over as the main manager for the club after the previous manager, Takeshi Ono, left. Mochizuki managed the team for four matches. In June of that year, a new manager, Mihailo Petrović, was hired. Mochizuki then went back to his role as goalkeeper coach until 2011.

After that, he continued to work with the club's youth teams. He became a director for the youth team in 2012. From 2013 to 2014, he managed the youth team, helping to develop new talent.
