Keating is situated off Keating Road, just north of where it meets Oregon Route 86. It's found to the northeast of Baker City.
History of Keating
The community of Keating was named after an early settler who lived there. His name was "Uncle Tom" Keating. He was a former British sailor who decided to make his home and acquire land in this area.
A post office was an important part of the community for many years. It operated in Keating from 1880 until 1975. Post offices were vital for sending and receiving mail, connecting people before the age of the internet and cell phones.
