Keisuke Tsuboi (坪井 慶介, Tsuboi Keisuke, born 16 September 1979) is a Japanese former professional footballer. He played as a defender, which means his main job was to stop the other team from scoring goals.

Starting His Career
Keisuke Tsuboi was born on September 16, 1979. He grew up in Tama, Tokyo, Japan. He loved football from a young age.
He played for Yokkaichi Chuo Kogyo High School. After that, he went to Fukuoka University. He played football for his university team too.
Playing for Urawa Red Diamonds
In 2002, after finishing university, Keisuke Tsuboi joined Urawa Red Diamonds. This is a famous football club in Japan. He quickly became a key player for the team.
His first game was on March 3, 2002. It was against Yokohama F. Marinos. He even scored his first league goal in 2003 against Gamba Osaka.
Keisuke Tsuboi won some big awards early in his career. He was named the Rookie of the Year in 2002. In 2003, he was chosen for the J.League Best Eleven. This means he was one of the best players in the league.
In 2006, his team, Urawa Red Diamonds, won the J1 League title. This was their first time winning the J1 League. The next year, in 2007, they won the AFC Champions League. This is a very important competition for Asian clubs.
Keisuke Tsuboi was a regular player for Urawa Red Diamonds until 2010. He played many games as a central defender. After 2010, he played fewer matches for the team.

In 2015, Keisuke Tsuboi moved to a new club, Shonan Bellmare. He continued to play as a defender there. After two seasons, in 2018, he joined Renofa Yamaguchi FC. He played for this club until 2019.

Playing for Japan
Keisuke Tsuboi also played for the Japan national team. He first played for Japan in 2001. This was at the Summer Universiade in Beijing. His team won the gold medal there. They beat Ukraine in the final game.
His first game for the senior national team was on June 11, 2003. It was a friendly match against Paraguay. The coach at that time was Zico.
World Cup Experience
Keisuke Tsuboi was part of the Japan team for the 2006 FIFA World Cup. This is one of the biggest football tournaments in the world. He played in two games during the World Cup. These were against Australia and Brazil.
In the game against Australia, he had to leave the field early. He got cramps in his legs. Another player, Teruyuki Moniwa, replaced him.
He was also selected for the 2007 AFC Asian Cup. However, he did not play in any games during that tournament. Other defenders were chosen to play instead.
On February 8, 2008, Keisuke Tsuboi announced he was retiring from international football. He played 40 games for Japan in total.
