Keith Russell is a Canadian politician from Newfoundland and Labrador. He used to be a special minister for Labrador and Indigenous Affairs. He was chosen to be a member of the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly in the 2011 provincial election.
Keith Russell was part of the Progressive Conservative Party of Newfoundland and Labrador. He represented the area of Lake Melville in Labrador. He served until he lost his election in 2015.
Keith Russell's Early Political Life
Before he joined provincial politics, Keith Russell was involved in the Nunatsiavut Government. He served as an Ordinary Member for the Upper Lake Melville area. This experience helped him understand how government works.
Serving in the Newfoundland and Labrador Government
In the 2011 provincial election, Keith Russell was elected to the House of Assembly. This is like being chosen by the people to represent them in the government. He became the Member of the House of Assembly (MHA) for Lake Melville.
During his time as an MHA, he also served as the Minister of Labrador and Aboriginal Affairs. This role meant he was in charge of important matters for Labrador and for Indigenous peoples in the province. He worked on issues that affected these communities.
Later Elections and Political Journey
Keith Russell ran for re-election in the 2015 provincial election. However, he was not re-elected at that time. The people of Lake Melville chose a different representative.
In 2025, Keith Russell was again chosen by the Progressive Conservative Party of Newfoundland and Labrador to be their candidate. He was the only person nominated for the district of Lake Melville. This means he will run for election again in the future.
